Dance Major
Dance Major – The Dance Major aims to nurture and promote talented and curious students with a passion for the art of dance.
The program is both practical and theoretical:
Practical studies include:
Developing technical skills in classical ballet and modern dance.
Enhancing personal expression through composition and improvisation lessons.
Repertoire workshops and original creations led by program teachers and guest instructors.
Enrichment sessions with Israeli dancers and choreographers in artist workshops.
Theoretical studies include:
Expanding and deepening knowledge in dance history, including watching and analyzing dance works.
Understanding the body and its functions through kinesiology/ anatomy lessons.
Enriching knowledge with lectures on music for dance.
Throughout the year, students attend various dance performances and participate in school and external productions. The program grants 5 units in Israel, with an additional university bonus. An advanced track for outstanding students, selected by the program’s team, provides 5 more units. This program is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and recognized by academic institutions. Students are tested alongside the country’s best in classical, modern, and solo dance.
Key events include:
Open lessons for parents.
Composition evenings – showcasing individual works by students.
Final performance – Dance Major showcase.

Dance Major Teachers
Yamit Holior-Kra Shafar – Modern Dance and Creation Workshop teacher, former solo dancer in Moshe Efrati’s Kol D’mamah dance troupe. Graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with a B.Dance degree and a teaching certificate.
Ilana Abramovich – Head of the Dance Major in High School, Composition, Creation Workshop, and History of Dance teacher. Graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, specializing in Movement Studies and Choreography. As an independent creator, she presented works at Other Dance, Mixed Jerusalem, Musrara Festival, and Dance Arena.
Sigal Rot – Composition, Creation Workshops, and Feldenkrais teacher. Graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with a B.Dance degree and a teaching certificate. Assistant Director of the Vertigo Dance Company and Head of the Dance Training Program for dancers at Vertigo, including summer and winter courses.
Noga Koflerman – Modern Dance and Pilates teacher. Graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with a B.Dance degree and a teaching certificate. Dancer in the Kolben Dance company under Amir Kolben and coordinator of the Yad Harif Arts Center in the Mateh Yehuda region.
Riki Varon-Horev – Classical Ballet and Repertoire Workshop teacher. Former dancer in various dance companies in Israel and abroad, including Batsheva Dance Ensemble, The Kibbutz Dance Company, Kolben Dance, Galili Dance/Holland, and Vertigo Dance Company. Taught in Vertigo’s Dance Training Program and is a guest teacher in various dance companies. Teaches dance education students at Wingate College. Holds a Bachelor’s degree, teaching certificate, and a Master’s degree from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
Megumi Kadem-Oikawa – Head of the Dance Major in Middle School, Classical Ballet, and Neo-Classical Creation Workshops teacher. Former dancer in Kresh Kafitza Dance Company. Graduate of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with a B.Dance degree and a teaching certificate. Teaches classical ballet at the Kolben Dance School.
